Toyota's new RAV4 has become the first SUV to achieve the maximum five-star safety rating under the new, tougher Euro NCAP program for 2013. The result illustrates Toyota's continued commitment to develop new cars to the highest safety standards. New RAV4 builds on the high standards of occupant safety and pedestrian impact protection that have evolved over the previous three generations of Toyota's popular compact SUV. Fourth-generation RAV4 has even higher levels of active and passive safety than its predecessors. Seven airbags are fitted as standard, including a driver's knee airbag. Active safety systems include VSC+, which integrates the vehicle stability control and the electric power steering systems for improved vehicle stability.
RAV4 has anti-skid brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution and traction control. RAV4's passive safety foundation is its body structure which features an impact-absorbing, multi-load-path body construction designed to help provide increased frontal and side impact protection.
